The basics
You get five guesses. Two emoji are visible at the start and a third appears after your first miss. After three guesses a written hint unlocks.
Search from the list of possible answers rather than typing freely, so you always submit something the game recognises.
Literal, then phonetic
Read the sequence twice. First as pictures of things that happen in the story. Then as sounds, because emoji are often used for syllables rather than meaning.
A bee followed by a leaf is not about insects and plants. Order matters too, since the emoji usually track the order of words in the title.
Hold more than one reading
The most common failure is locking onto the first story you see and forcing every later emoji to fit it. Keep two candidate readings alive until a symbol clearly rules one out.
The later emoji are usually the disambiguating ones, which is why a miss is not a disaster.
A worked sequence
You see a shark and a swimmer. Your first thought is a documentary about sharks, and that is a perfectly reasonable reading.
Then a drop of blood appears. A documentary would not need that, but a thriller would. Two symbols were ambiguous and the third resolved them. This is exactly why guessing early to unlock a symbol can be worth more than staring at what you already have.
Tips worth remembering
- Say the emoji out loud. Phonetic puzzles are much easier heard than read.
- Count the emoji against the number of words you expect in the title.
- If a symbol seems redundant, it is probably the important one.
- Take the written hint if you reach three guesses. There is no bonus for refusing it.
